In our homeowners’ association, we make an effort to ensure that everyone—both homeowners and other residents—helps keep our lovely neighborhood clean and tidy.

Guide for recidents (Version in Danish)
As a resident of the neighborhood, you must comply with the current regulations for the municipality’s waste management. Here is a link to information on Waste management in Copenhagen.
As a general rule, each property must store waste on its own premises, from where it will be collected by the municipality. You can get an overview of the waste collection schedule for your property through Copenhagen Municipality’s Easy Waste Service (Nem Affaldsservice – In danish). Here, you will find a calendar and guidelines on when and where the waste is collected by the municipality.
There are no central locations for placing bulky waste, furniture, or garden waste in the area, and you are not allowed to leave waste at neighbors’ properties without prior agreement. For waste types such as Paper and Metal, there are shared containers. Read more on location here.
If bulky waste, furniture, garden waste, or other waste needs to be placed by the roadside in front of the property for collection, it should be done no earlier than the day before collection. Waste will not be collected if it is not properly packed and labeled. Read more about bulky waste and garden waste here.
Any waste you place outside remains your responsibility until it is collected. If it is not collected within 2 days, it must be removed from the roadside and returned to your property or taken directly to the recycling center.

Handling of Bulky Waste and Garden Waste
If you handle your bulky waste or garden waste incorrectly, it will not be collected. Due to increased focus on recycling, the environment, and safety, the municipality may occasionally update the rules.
On the municipality’s bulky waste website, you will find detailed descriptions of what qualifies as bulky waste — and just as importantly, what does not.
Bulky waste is collected approximately every 3 months and may be picked up as early as 7:00 a.m. According to municipal rules, you are allowed to place bulky waste at the pickup spot the evening before collection day. Find the exact pickup spot that applies to your address via Nem Affaldsservice.
Make sure to check that your waste has actually been collected. If it hasn’t, you can report it via Nem Affaldsservice. If your bulky or garden waste is not collected, it remains your responsibility to arrange a new pickup (can be done from Nem Affaldsservice), move it back onto your property, or take it to the recycling center.
Residents on Amagerbrogade may now place bulky waste, garden waste, and Christmas trees along Amagerbrogade. Check Nem Affaldsservice for your address — and click on the icon for the type of waste you want to dispose of to see your pickup spot.
You must follow the rules for categories, packing, safety, and placement. Common mistakes with bulky or garden waste left out for pickup include:
- Bicycles are not labeled with “To be collected by waste collector”
- Garden waste placed in plastic bags (must be paper sacks)
- Garden waste is too large or not easily manageable — it can be bundled with string
- Christmas trees are placed out too early
- Christmas trees are too large to be collected
- Cardboard is not bundled and placed correctly with the cardboard container
Improper waste — any resulting disposal costs will be billed to the property owner(s)
The homeowners’ association board monitors waste management on behalf of the association to ensure that it does not inconvenience other residents, harm the local environment, or attract pests like rats.
If the board must intervene to resolve improper waste handling — such as bulky waste that is incorrectly placed or not collected due to non-compliance — any costs for removal may be billed to the responsible homeowner(s).
Here are a few more tips for managing your waste:
Tip 1: Nem affalds service
Each property typically has an individual agreement with the municipality regarding waste collection. You can find the specific terms that apply to your address at Nem Affaldsservice.
Enter your address to access a calendar with dates and pickup locations for different types of waste. You can also print a PDF for your stairwell, subscribe to SMS notifications, or sync the collection calendar with your smartphone.
You can also use this service to communicate with the municipality, e.g., about missed pickups or container replacements.
Tip 2: Voluntary Cooperation Between Neighbors
You may enter into agreements with other homeowners or neighbors, such as sharing a cardboard container. If you plan to enter such an arrangement, contact the municipality to set up an agreement.
Tip 3: Mark the Entrance to Your Backyard with Your House Number
This helps waste collection personnel return the correct container to your property.
Tip 4: Bulky Waste for Residents on Amagerbrogade
As mentioned earlier, residents of Amagerbrogade can now place bulky waste, garden waste, and Christmas trees out along Amagerbrogade. Check Nem Affaldsservice for your address and click on the relevant waste icon to see your pickup location.
Note: If the waste is not collected, you must report it viaNem Affaldsservice.
Since conditions may change without the board’s knowledge, please verify the arrangement for your address here: Nem Affaldsservice.
Tip 5: Disposal of Extra/Large Cardboard
The municipality collects additional cardboard that doesn’t fit into your container, as long as it is bundled with string and placed clearly next to the cardboard container at the property line or sidewalk edge before scheduled collection — without blocking pedestrian paths.
